Kitty Wilkinson
Liverpool City Council commissioned a statue of a remarkable woman called Kitty Wilkinson (1786-1860). The statue was to be over life sized and carved in marble and placed in St. Georges Hall, Liverpool, a grade 1 listed building. It was the first statue to be placed in the Hall for more than 100 years , and the first woman to be represented. The finished statue was unveiled in September 2012 by a descendent of Kitty Wilkinson. It depicts a strong, determined and caring woman carved in marble from the Cava di Michel Angelo in Carrara, Italy.
The statue now has a grade 1 listing.
