Bacchante
Bacchante
Carrara marble
0.4m x 0.4m x 1.2m
Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Kent.
This Figure of a Bacchante was commissioned by the National Trust for the beautiful gardens of Sissinghurst Castle. It was to echo a statue that was previously in the gardens but it should have life and movement, and not be a mere copy of the original. The sculpture depicts a dancing girl, slightly drunk, who has suddenly noticed something in the distance.
The statue was carved from Carrara marble from the Cava di Michelangelo and installed in June 2016.
